Cicely: Being a Voice in Her Daughters’ Future
For Cicely, Say Goodbye became meaningful after an unexpected loss in her family. The passing of a close relative earlier this year shook her family and reminded her of something many people do not want to think about: we can prepare for the future as if we will be there, but we cannot guarantee that we will be.
As a wife and mother of two young daughters, Cicely thinks about all the moments still ahead of them. Birthdays. New experiences. Milestones. The possibility that one day they may become mothers themselves. She wants to be present for all of it, offering wisdom, encouragement, comfort, and love in the moments when they may need her most.
For Cicely, Say Goodbye gives her a way to do that in her own voice.
Not through AI. Not through someone else’s memory of her. Not through a secondhand version of what she might have said. But through her actual words, captured honestly and saved for the future.
“And for me, Say Goodbye is one of those ways in which I can be there, and I can bring my voice to their situations in an authentic way.”
She also thinks about her husband and what it would mean for him if she were gone earlier than either of them ever expected. Say Goodbye gives her a way to remain part of his life and her daughters’ lives, even if life unfolds differently than planned.
Her story speaks to one of the deepest purposes of Say Goodbye: giving the people we love access to our voice, our presence, and our heart when they need it most.
